Item Build
Starting Items
In the recent nerf, going revj bead and a ward with pots gives you enough sustain to make it through the early game laning phase. If you are going vs. an AD counter top lane then you should pick up a dorans sheild to help survive the lane.
You can sell th e revj bead later to get a major item (you'll only take a 34 gold hit).
Next Steps
You want to buy Hextech Revolver as soon as possible. You will need 1,200 gold (roughly 60 creeps) and you should always be able reach this amount of money when you reach level 6. Aim for more so you can afford health potions and wards. Your 1st trip back to base should always get you a Hextech Revolver but if you cant afford it, buy the 2 Amplifying Tomes that are required and whenever you can go back again combine them into the Hextech Revolver. You need this item, as it will build into Hextech Gunblade and gives you very good sustain in lane. After Hextech Gunblade you have to identify the type of damage the enemy has. If they have mostly magical damage or you are having troubles with crowd control abilities buy Mercury's Treads. If not, wait till later on in the game to buy Sorcerer’s Shoes.
Core Items
Your core items for every game should always consist of a Hextech Gunblade, Sorc boots (or Mercs), and GA. Hextech Gunblade does everything Akali needs to keep on the target and synergizes with her AD and AP. Sorc boots are an option because she is an assassin and does a lot of damage early game after 6. If you jump in and die instantly then you're doing it wrong - wait until the fight starts, then come in last. I almost ALWAYS get GA every game because it puts the focus from the enemy team onto somebody else, especially if you're fed. I would usually get GA before Deathcap but if you're not worried or not worth too much, get Deathcap first.
Endgame Items
Standard Assassin
This build gives you massive amount of damage all while having damage mitigation. That is a key part of building Akali. You can never go full damage without any resistances or you will be useless. Here you deal mostly magical damage. Even though the Hextech Gunblade gives you attack damage, the reason behind it is for the slow, the spell vamp and the lifesteal component of it. The Zhonya’s Hourglass also gives you another method of survivability. Only get Lich Bane if you have a lot of AP already. Void staff only if the CARRIES start stacking MR.
Assassin Tank Build
That's it. If you're an assassin you've gotta not be a huge bitch and just go damage. GA provides room for maximum damage output and also keeps you safe. Hourglass is for if you want more AP and a good way to disengage if you ever initiate a fight. A good way to use Hourglass would be to make them waste important abilities in that 3 second duration.

Posted 5/10/2013 5:41:52 AMUhm, Rejuvenation Bead costs 180g and sells for 126 gold, so that's a 54g loss if you sell it, right?
I've not a little napkin math, and if the Rejuvenation Bead is active and relevant for 4 minutes or longer, it's more cost effective than health potions. Maybe the right answer is 2 beads 1 pot 1 ward in some lanes?
Shame about the continuous nerfs to Akali. She was my favourite assasin.
On another note, I've been looking at the spread between magic and physical damage I deal to champions as Akali, and it's about a 25%/75%, (mostly) following the above build. Anyone have different data points?

Posted 5/10/2013 4:47:09 PMI haven't checked "to champions" but damage dealt in general always seems to be more physical than magical....weird. I assume it's from last hitting creeps, but even that does magic damage too...

Posted 5/6/2013 9:06:23 PMI have a question. I've tried to test this but I can't really tell. Is the "double proccing technique" when you use your Q on someone, wait for it to come off cooldown, proc it, reapply Q and proc again OR do the Qs stack? Since at level 9, the CD is 4 seconds, but the debuff lasts 6 seconds, can you put two marks and pop them both with one auto?

Posted 5/6/2013 8:59:04 PMYes she got nerfed, but she still has great snowballing power. Also, in the 3.07 patch, her shroud is now giving vision, which is going to be a huge buff.

Posted 4/24/2013 3:32:45 AMThis guide would probably need an update next patch since hp pots are capped to 5 and Red Pot increased to 350g.
And yer Akali is pretty much overnerfed now. esp lolking shows this.

Westrice is still a better Akali but if you know who Westrice is you can probably wander over to his LoLKing and decipher his setup.
I'll give you a hint, it's the same as this but with an armor seal setup for against early gamers like Renekton and a HP seal setup for better dives come mid-late game and switched out MR glyphs for AP/L Glyphs to go with another HP/L Seal page and armor seal page for when there's not a lot of AP or magic damage, otherwise probably an MR/L page and an AD mark page for early harass against Irelia etc.
Switching from offense to defense is really if you can get away with it but there are plenty of great builds like Hextech, Mercs, Abyssal and Randuins to go with tanky setups or otherwise defense and HP otherwise the more bursty setups and 21 offense builds which are a lot safer in mid lane.
Take teleport too if you want to 21 offense burst top lane because if you lose lane, you'll lose game.
