Strategy and Tactics
The key roles of playing an attack damage bottom lane is to be able to last hit. A normal kill is around 300 gold depending on how many times they have died and it makes up to around 20-21 creeps (both melee and range). So whenever you get 20ish creep kills, consider it the equivalent of earning a kill. This is very important for Ezreal because his build is very expensive and not being able to get creep kills will put you behind quite a lot. Don't be afraid to play defensively and last hit using your Q, especially if laning with Soraka or if your mana is relatively high.
Being able to land your Mystic Shot allows maximum DPS. Being able to hit them takes time and practice. If you can hit at least 75% of your Mystic Shots (Q), you will be a very good Ezreal player. Skill shots are what makes Ezreal a beast or a weakling. Landing Ezreal's Q gives you a huge advantage because it is basically another auto attack that is much stronger. Landing several of his Q's in a short period of time often puts you in a good position to get a kill. One of the best times to harass with Ezreal's Q is when minion build up is low, since at times of high minion build up in your lane, you should be getting last hits and finding a proper positioning to land a Q can be difficult.
Next is kiting which is essential for most ranged attack damage carries. Without it, you will not be able to achieve most kills that would otherwise be easily obtainable. Being too scared will be your downfall and being over confident will also be your downfall. Keeping a balance with your mentality will help you know when to kite and not to kite. Kiting takes skill and timing. Ezreal is the master of kiting with his auto attacks, mystic shots(Q) and arcane shift(E). Being able to bring the enemy to low health while trying to engage you with all your spells up can provide a huge advantage. Finally, don't be greedy. If an enemy is low don't go diving through the enemy team to get it, stay behind your tanks, play it safe and try to focus targets from a position you know you can escape from. Don't get cornered or trapped without your Arcane Shift/ Flash up.
Repositioning is very important on Ezreal. Repositiong yourself when you are in danger in a team fight gives trouble for the other team trying to kill you. Landing all your Mystic Shots(Q) you fire will make repositioning happen at a very fast rate. You want to reposition defensively when the enemy team is trying to focus you, tanks are trying to engage and when you feel an assassin may approach. You want to repositon offensively when you need to align yourself for a Mystic Shot(Q), when chasing, and for damage at appropriate times.
So a reminder:
- Enemy team trying to focus you
- Tanks rushing you in a teamfight
- Assassin may approach or attacking you in a team fight
- Running away
- Aligning your skill shot
- Damaging at appropriate times
Teamfight vs Teamflight
Ezreal can team fight really well and kite like a boss. When the fight is initiated, you generally want to just single target the enemy if they are caught. Otherwise you should use your ultimate to lower down the enemy team as much as possible. After that you want to engage safely to whatever your team goes toward. After everything is safe engage aggressively and chase down the runners.
As for kiting. It is completely the opposite, you want to hit/back/hit/back. Eventually your team can counter initiate. Then you use your ultimate the second your team counter initiates the other team. Then the pursuit begins and you can finish people off.
Team fights, is where Ezreal shines. The way it should always be is having your tanks initiate or your intiaters intiate. When the fight begins, you want to to do as much damage as possible in the front line since the fight already began. Use your Trueshot barrage(R) hitting as many targets as possible in a team fight. Then buffing your teammates and debuffing the enemy team with your Essence Flux (W) making their attack speed go down and making yours and your team's go up. All of this should happen in a matter of 2 seconds. Next your priority is to take down anyone that poses a threat. Assassins are a major threat to Ezreal, eliminating them first is key. If you do have your Exhaust up, it will be a lot easier. The second an assassin engages you, you should Exhaust/Mystic Shot (Q) and auto attack. They will not expect this because of the Exhaust gimping them. Assuming they will Flash, Arcane Shift (E) towards their direction of flash and finish them if the other team does not have an assassin. You should hope that your AP Carry can initiate on the other carries like Annie. You should follow through with that and Mystic Shot (Q) plus auto attack them with Exhaust on the most threatening target. Assuming you have done this all right, the assassin and carries should be dead or have fled the battle. Finish off the rest, and hope that the team fight was well positioned and the battle went in your favor. This is where you Dragon, obtain buffs, push towers, or get Baron.
The power that is inside
The key to obtaining the most damage as Ezreal is to maintain your attack speed stacks by landing your skill shots. The most important and key thing is using your Mystic Shot(Q) right after your auto attack. When I see other people play Ezreal, they cancel their auto attack and use Mystic Shot(Q). Sometimes doing that will help secure the kill since Mystic Shot(Q) does a lot more damage, but when it comes to a 1v1 showdown you want to Mystic Shot(Q) right after your auto attack. It is just like Trundle's auto attack and rapid bite.
Tips & Tricks
Checking Brush With Mystic Shot (Q)
You should never facecheck as Ezreal as you should be using your Mystic Shot (Q) or even Essence Flux (W) to check if any gankers are there to kill you. This is a great tactic for bottom lane because it is here where the jungler generally tries their best to get you or even a strong bottom lane support like Taric attempts to kill you.
Hopping Through Walls
As Ezreal repositioning yourself through walls is the best way to reposition most of the time because it will give the enemy a harder time trying to kill you. Double flashing through two walls will give them an even harder time trying to persue you and will often guarantee your escape.

Maintaining Rising Force Stacks
Maintaining them is very good because when you want to engage your target, you will attack much faster doing more DPS and killing your target at a quicker rate.. Also when you are tower pushing, it really does help. A great way to maintain them while attacking the tower is to Mystic Shot (Q) creeps, heroes(backing off when doing it, so you don't get tower aggroed) and neutrals. Use Essence Flux (W) your allies and Arcane Shifting (E) when there are no enemies nearby, and Trueshot Barrage (R) the incoming or current creep wave.
Bursting Your Opponent
One of Ezreal's strongest ways of killing an enemy is bot lane is bursting from the bush. What I mean by this is that at level 6 Ezreal has a very strong combo that will often kill your opponents if they are bellow 70% HP depending on your support. Leading with your ultimate from the bush you can then Arcane shift out hitting them with your ignite/exhaust (depending), Q, and W. This combined with your supports CC/damage makes for an easy and surprising kill against your opponent. Some things to note, make sure there is not too many creeps in your way so you can follow up your combo with more Q's. Also make sure there isn't vision of the bush you are bursting from as it can give them excess time to juke/counter your combo.
Aligning your skillshots
The best way to align your skill shots is using Arcane Shift (E). It will help you align them much more quickly and efficiently. Using Arcane Shift (E) to the side to give you a better angle to hit your enemies with Mystic Shot (Q). Arcane Shift (E) into a straight spot to hit all of your enemies. I love repositioning myself when enemies target you because it leaves them wide open to take everything in the face.
Synergies and Counters
For Sona you want to be counter aggressive. She can do a lot of damage at early levels and slow the target she chooses. Her ability to heal + increase your magic resist/armor and then increase your attack damage it will help you counter the enemy's aggressive play. Her ultimate synergizes with Ezreal's Trueshot Barrage (R) as it keeps the enemies still and they take an ultimate to the face.
Nami is my favorite support in the game currently, she has amazing engage/dis-engage her E applied on Ezreal + Trinity + Nami passive allows him to hunt down nearly anyone. She also has great CC allowing Ezreal to land easy ults as well as Q harass. This lane is extremely hard to kill because of Nami passive, the disengage Nami can provide along side Ezreal's already very mobile E ability and the sustain Nami brings. With all their cool downs up, its nearly impossible to pin down this lane.
Thresh is a strong support in general, his good damage and ability to provide mobility to an ADC makes Ezreal very very hard to touch. Thresh has a great ability to combo his moves together and create high damage, Ezreal also has this ability when both combo together it can be overwhelming. Thresh's lantern also provides Ezreal with yet another escape as if E wasn't enough he can now Flash, E or Lantern out of fights, this lets Ezreal go very deep without having to worry about getting stuck behind enemy lines, especially when tower diving.
For Lulu you want to focus on trying to zone your enemy and get high burst pokes on the enemy ADC or support. Using Lulu's slow and polymorph allow Ezreal to land his Ult (Trueshot Barrage) and poke with his Mystic Shot. Lulu's burst and Ultimate (Wild Growth) make diving easy. Finally between Ezreal's Flash, Arcane Shift, Wild Growth, Lulu's slows/speed ups, and Polymorph escaping is fairly easy.
No one really counters Ezreal hard because he can farm from long range, but some champions do better against him.
Caitlyn can be strong against Ezreal because she can abuse her range to effectively poke Ezreal. You should try to use Q to CS more often then autos if Caitlyn is playing aggressively. This makes it hard for her to get any auto or Q's off on you at all.
