I would feel vulnerable in the laning phase without the standard armor seals! I've read this whole guide and have picked up several useful things from it, but the one thing I don't like is the lack of armor runes. But then again, I'm not a professional.

I also think that Cassiopeia should be listed as a synergizing ally. Galio's ultimate makes enemies face towards a central point, and gives Cassiopeia plenty of time to get to that point and throw down a devastating team disable. Additionally, Galio's and Cassiopeia's Q abilities are both very long range slows, which can make it very difficult for fleeing enemies to escape.

I also think that the +20% buff duration mastery could be helpful.

I dont see the point in not just going 12/9/9 that duration is so appreciated.

Hello, thank you verry much for this guide, I'll try it out asap :)

Hm, I'd have a question, tho. Once you have, let's say, RoA, Rabadon, Abyssal and Zhonya, would it be stupid getting a rylay instead of GA? I don't really know if the flat hp and nice AP would help a lot on Galio, nor the slow, but I was wondering?

I had to take some one mid in ranked so I randomly chose galio and did great. This guide is sick! Once you are over the initial, "Shit I dont want to last hit with spells caus I have no mana" to "I got 1500 mana whatever!" you will own.

I am 1450 and people here have no clue how to play cv galio. They always bunch up and my ult just wont the game!

What should a Galio do if the enemy team becomes comprised of mainly AD? Like, lets say they have Riven Top, Shyvana Jungle, Grave + Sona bot and Ryze Mid. Obviously the MR would only help against Ryze, so it wouldn't be tactical to build as much of it. Would I just go suboptimal and build Thornmail and Frozen Heart, or build AP?

Then the person who picked Galio is stupid. You get to see who the other people pick before the game, so if they're mainly AD and the you counterpick Galio, you're basically trolling.

  • #14 Chernobyl56

No, I'm talking about If I'm second pick or something and pick him, then the rest of their team goes AD. How do you recover from that situation.?

Idealy, you swich with your ap carry and run mid instead, but you need to run this by your team mates first. If you are stuck against an ad, switch pages to something with armour seals, then go something like cloth5, tabi if needed, ROA+chain vest. If you cant safely build the ROA, build a frozen heart, as more cdr means more nukes and cc, and galio has better base damages then most. By the time you have done that, laneing should be over or almost over, and you go into your normal build. You  have slightly offensive punch, but as long as you survive the laneing phase with decent farm you are still usefull.

Go loads of armor rather than loads of MR. Galio isn't ideal in situations against heavy AD teams, but if you are pinned against a physical damage heavy team you should build strong armor items such as Randuin's Omen, Frozen Heart, etc. Of course, this will result in your passive being not so useful + your ultimate not being of much use, hence why he's not that useful versus heavy AD comps.

I would list Udyr as a counter, because if he's in range of the taunt and in Bear Stance, it instantly cancels your ult.

In that case you may add Garen. His Decisive Strike (Q) silences Galio for 2.5 seconds, stoping his ultimate and rendering him nearly useless for the silence's duration.

Is this really TOP-lane? Cause all the MR-runes wont help you much defensivewise against the common toplane picks.

This whole guide seems a bit "off" to me.

Dont get me wrong, i'm by far not as experienced as SYDTKO and if he believes in every word of this guide then hes probably right but I'd love to hear some clarification on some points, like the counterpicks only mentioning Cho Irelia and Nasus. Isnt Trynd or GP harder to lane against on toplane since Galio naturally rather wants to build MR than Armor?

Anyways: Keep up the good work on this Homepage. I feel theres a LOT off work in it!

My 2 cents : Galio is more of a counter pick than anything. He can be zoned, easily or sometimes not so much, by lots of AD bruisers : Irelia, Riven, Pantheon, GP, and lots of others. It's a strong "first" pick in mid (meaning before the other mid) because in this metagame, everyone wants to play mid with AP carries. Galio loves those, he utterly destroys 'em into oblivion, Vladimir seems to be the only true exception.

I guess this build has changed since it's a mid / top guide. And quite good anyway.  Even though there's only "one" core build, and there are really 2 galios that I've seen work by far : rod's ones and chalice's (then rylai / abyssal) ones.

I'd like to think this is a mid lane focused Galio not top lane. Otherwise it wouldnt make any sense stacking MR against a common AD top lane bruiser, unless the enemy team runs double AP.
