I have more than 1500 games on the new map (over 400 are ranked games), and have played all 3 roles extensively. I am an avid student of the game, and am always striving to get better. Map Overview
Twisted Treeline in general is much faster paced than Summoners Rift. It has two lanes that are relatively close together, and a small jungle between them. It’s hard to go for more than a couple minutes and not tussle with the enemy team. While farming is still extremely important, team-fighting and early dueling are much more prevalent on this map. This is why early game champions tend to be better picks. If you like fast paced, action packed games that require a lot of team coordination, I would suggest you give Twisted Treeline a try!

This picture gives an overview of the map. As you can see, there are two lanes that curve towards each other, three jungle camps and an altar on each side of the map, a Ghost Relic in the middle, and a giant spider boss named Vilemaw at the top. The map overall is much smaller and more compact than Summoners Rift, and as such confrontations happen much more frequently.
There are no wards on the map. This will feel really weird at first, but eventually you get used to it, and realize it's for the best. Since the map is so small, good map awareness goes a long way in being able to predict where the enemy is, and where they will be. Also, there are items (Grez's Spectral Lantern and Hextech Sweeper) that give temporary vision of an area, which can save you from face-checking a bush full of enemies.
Important Timers:
- Minions spawn: 1:15
- Minions meet: 1:37
- Jungle monsters spawn: 1:40 (50 second respawn timers)
- Ghost Relic: 1:55 (90 second respawn timer)
- Altars unlock: 3:00
- Vilemaw spawns: 10:00 (5 min respawn timer)
Twisted Treeline Buffs:
- Each champion starts with 825 gold.
- All champions passively gain up to +150% bonus mana regeneration based upon their percentage of missing mana (e.g. 0% mana gives +150% regeneration, 50% mana gives +75% regeneration). This helps the viability of AP champions that rely on mana.
- Ghost Relic: Replenishes 94-315 health (based on champion level) and a small amount of your ability resource. It also grants a brief speed boost
- Crest of Crushing Wrath: Received for defeating Vilemaw. Gives bonus health and mana regeneration, 30% attack speed, and 20% cooldown reduction.
- Altars: One altar gives +3 gold per unit killed. Two altars give +10% AD and AP. (Altars will be discussed more in the ‘Strategy’ section.)

Posted 5/23/2013 10:35:43 PMYetti,
First of all, thanks to your guide! We win a couples games mostly your suggestions of the team com or pick/bans
:D
However, the server we play (TW server) seems to be quite different than US server. Its funny they rarely ban Tryn nor Darius or maybe they don't really have a "tier list" in the mind set.
So we banned Singed, Riven, Jarvan IV or WuKong. I think they ban something random like Renecton, Malphite and someone else...
and we went Darius, JG Tryn and Kass vs. Sejun, JG fiddle and Vayne.
I dont know man... In the late game we just got completely screwed by vayne and Fiddle's ult, and Sejun got a great slow so we can't really jump on Vayne or find Fiddle.
Maybe we were feeding a bit during the early game, or required more skills considering we're still in low rank haha
Or they just got much more CC than us....but its fairly a interesting team comp in their team
Anyways!
If you can leave any comments will be much appricated!
THANKS :)
JC

Posted 5/17/2013 3:34:40 PMYetti,
I've been referring to this guide since February and watching your stream since it's inception and it has drastically improved mine and my teammates play- many thanks!
Now that I have a better handle on the Treeline and have learned enough champs to cover various roles, I am working on expanding my champion pool so that I can be more versatile in my composition choice. One major thing that prevents this versatility is my relative inexperience with setting up masteries and runes. I understand their application to individual champions, but I notice that you setup masteries and runes categorically according to the type of character/build you are running and apply that at the beginning of each game (I.E. AD+CD runes and AD Bruiser runes on Rennekton for a particular match). I imagine this really changes the way you are able to conceptualize and build characters into a role that suits you and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a guide that would explain this type of setup and list some builds? If not could you maybe add a section addressing this issue? Sorry if this is a little bit afield of the parameters of this guide, but you're an excellent teacher and student of the game!
Apologies for my prolixity and thanks for all the great advice!

Posted 5/20/2013 9:39:05 AMThanks for all your kind words. Your question is very good, and worth looking into, although I don't know of any guides that cover it. And since it isn't a TT specific thing, I don't know if I will add something like that to the guide. Although now that I think about it, I've had a few requests to cover runes and masteries that are good on TT, so I may do it at some point when I get time. Basically you want to spec your runes and masteries to best counter the enemy team. I know thats vague, but it just takes a bit of forethought. Do they have a lot of magic damage? Make sure you get MR blues. No magic damage? CDR blues could be the better choice. Will you be getting kited really hard? Maybe you should take Movespeed Quints. Is it your job to damage soak and initiate? Go 9/21. Are you a ranged champion meant to pump out as much damage as possible? 21/9. Although, does your team not have any peel? Then I would still possibly consider 9/21.
A lot of it just comes from experience, and it is also personal preference. I tend to like to play balls deep, and as such usually go 9/21. Unless I'm a squishy caster or ranged AD champ. Then usually 21/9.
Oh, and sorry about the lack of streaming lately. Have a lot of real life stuff going on recently. I will try to start streaming more soon!

Posted 5/16/2013 7:58:04 AMHello, great guide!I really like playing cho' gath (bot lane) and i would appreciate any tips or what items are good for him.I can't find NOWHERE a Cho' Gath 3v3 guide, can u suggest any site or link (a guide by yetti himself would be great)!
I know there are some standard picks and combos in 3v3 but me and my friends are currently playing Cho-Voli(jungle)-Ez combo and it 's prety good.Any advise for this combo?
Tnx again for your guide!

Posted 5/20/2013 9:31:23 AMSorry, don't know of any 3v3 Cho'Gath guides. If you have any Cho questions, I would add 'Roncor' (on the NA server), as he plays a LOT of Cho, and plays him very well. Tell him Yetti sent you. Basically just build tanky AP items, and do your best to build to counter the enemy team. Hit your ruptures, and you're golden.
That combo sounds very strong. Good peel and tankyness with Voli and Cho, Ez can kite for days and is a strong laner. Depending on how squishy you build the Ez, just make sure he has good positioning, and doesn't get caught.

Posted 5/10/2013 4:48:11 AMHey Yetttti,
i have a question for the start of the game. How is your positining in the beginning before creep spawn and what do you do when your jungle gets invaded in this part of the game?
My team often has a big problem when this happens. they ruin our jungle start as they get 1 or 2 camps and we are getting more and more behind!
i hope u unserstand what im trying to say my english is not the best ;-)
Thanks!
Btw:
what do u think of nasus builded tanky with bft? with his ult and bft he deals "tons of damage" in my opinion. my build with him is sunfire, bft, and then situational bullwark or abyssal and so on...

Posted 5/20/2013 9:27:47 AMWe usually don't challenge the enemy team early. If we know they are trying to take our wolves, we will try to defend them. But if they definitely have a stronger lvl 1, just let them have them. It's not worth dying for.
Sure, I can see that Nasus build working.

Posted 5/8/2013 10:55:32 AMYes, this is exactly why I mention AP Lane and AD Lane, instead of Top Lane and Bottom Lane. Generally, the safer of your 2 solo laners will go top, as the lane is a bit longer, usually farther away from your own jungler, and easier to gank. AP laners are usually more squishy and have less mobility, so that's why oftentimes you see AP champions in bot lane.

Posted 5/3/2013 11:54:12 AMThoughts on new and reworked champions for 3's:
Lissandra - Well, initially I thought she was going to be really strong. Her kit is fun, and gives her a lot of room to make plays. She is really really hard to gank. She gets a huge power spike at level 6, and if her lane opponent has around 50% HP, its a for sure kill. Her early game is above average, her mid game is great, and her late game is not the greatest. It makes sense though. Since she has so much CC and utility, her late game damage is really lackluster. Best paired with a champion that can be a late game threat, because she isn't.
Sejuani - So, her rework helped her in 5's, and in the jungle. But in 3's, I feel it was actually a nerf. What made her good before was the fact that you could stack HP, and your W would do insane damage. W doesn't do nearly as much damage anymore, which means she is weaker overall. The rest of her kit feels better though.
Trundle - I still need to test this a bit more, but Trundle feels like a beast now. With his ult, his W, a Spirit Visage, and BotRK, he has so much lifesteal and healing, and actually does pretty good damage. I haven't had a chance to try him in lane yet, but I feel like it could be pretty strong.

Posted 5/1/2013 5:56:33 AMDear Yetti,
I've ran my thoughts on Lissandra, And I think she is very good, but as an AP tank,
mainly due to the fact that she is a good initiator, but she needs to be close to do damage.
This is the build I created:
Dorans ring flask (or tear) FOR START
(The build order is not optimal. Any advice would be terrific.)
Thanks!

Posted 5/3/2013 11:55:36 AMI've tried building her tanky. I feel like she does 0 damage then. Idk, I'm still trying to find her best Niche. I think she just falls off late game no matter how you build her.

Posted 4/29/2013 8:15:45 AMDear yetti,
I have a question about playing nunu in the jungle here on TT.
What runes would you use on him? Do you use him as a support tank ( bulwark etc. ) or with an ap edge?
P.S. Great guide, motivated me for playing 3´s again :) Great job updating it all the time.
Have a nice day, Fellbiestrider

Posted 4/29/2013 2:38:30 PMFor jungle Nunu, I would build mostly support items. Lane Nunu usually goes AP CDR, but in the jungle you just aren't going to get enough farm to do that. Get a GP10, and then stack support items.
Thanks for your support! :)
