Something that i somewhat recently started doing on Leona with good results is picking up Iceborn Gauntlet. I bought it on a whim one game when my team was ahead and i wanted to try something different. I like it a lot because it helps sustain my mana mid/late game when i find i am engaging more frequently but also it gives me nice armour even in its glacial shroud stage to allow me to be more aggressive on the enemy ad as well as other physical damage champions. It adds even more lockdown to leonas already crazy kit by adding a slow which helps keep them in place longer if you are engaging on someone while ur ahead of your team (which with mobos i find is fairly frequently) and CDR so u have ur skills up more frequently. Also the bonus damage is basically guaranteed to proc twice per engage minimal, once when i e in and again when i pop my w while im in their face (in solo queue this is beneficial cause u cant always rely on ur team). obviously i see it being less important when ur in a situation with a group you are confident in.

Its one of her recommended items which is why i decided to give it a go one game and i really like it. once again im sure its less important in a full team situation, but at least in solo queue i find it amazing.

I play Leona more as a support rather than a damage dealer. I don't know what you've been doing to have mana problems, but a Frozen Heart is plenty. "More lockdown" Randuin's provides the same lockdown, actually the AOE is greater. The only reason for gauntlet is damage, and I am assuming you are cutting some pretty important stuff out for it considering the full game build is so full it can't even fit Frozen heart

The 'Skill Order' section says to max 'E' first, whereas the description below says to max 'Q'.

Just thought this may need a little correcting :)

  • #67 thechosenone124

He explained ealier that both work. It just depends on what you value more (and it says max W first, you mean second)

  • #68 lee555j5

I prefer E as first skill. It's ranged, where Q is melee only. It does more lvl 1 base dmg - 60 vs 40. It hits multiple enemies, where Q hits 1. This is especially important during lvl 1 invades, us or them. But, the main reason I take E is the AoE sunlight on all 3 monsters in red/blue first camp. The only advantage Q has is the 1.25s (vs 0.5-0.75s) true stun (vs root/snare/immobilize).

It totally depends. In lane, if someone facechecks stupidly or Lee Sin level 2 ganks your lane, Q will be better. Q is safe choice, E is agressive

    Hi!

    Basically a good guide!

What you maybe want to add: "Synergies" are also definitally with Tristana (rocketjump + the ult to knock back into the own tower are a great combination additionally to her CC), and in "Counterpicks" you really should list Morgana, as she can kompletely destroy the CC combo with her shield and makes leona nearly useless if played properly!

Also I am not that sure about the ability order, but this is always personal preferences ^^

I prefer in maxing her W first, and after this put 3 points into her E, because then, the CD of the Q and E are equal, and I am sure to be able to get out the entire combo all at the same time... after this, putting points in the abilities in turn. This way, independent if an enemy can escape the first combo or not, I can (as long as the E hits) always stun him again and often can secure the kill for the team as they can catch up without problems then.

Hi folks! I wonder if its any ide to build thornmail on Leona as support /tank?

  • #59 UndeadSpetsnaz

If the enemy ADC is dealing heavy critical strikes to me and my team, I solve that problem by buying Ninja Tabi boots and Thornmail mixed with other Items. So I say yes to thornmail.

  • #60 thechosenone124

Really any tank item is good under the right circumstances

I agree, although you do have to take into account whether or not there is just one person doing the crit damage and where the majority/most enemy damage is coming from.

What do u think about gp/5 instead of armor quints? Aren't they better if u have to play with farming jungler(shyvana) and vs. poking, strong early  laners?

I have been playing Leona for a few months now and I'm glad to see this rune setup I thought I was the only one who used this. But I have a few questions if you don't mind answering.

1.) Why isn't the Talisman of Ascension the best support item on Leona? It gives the money you need to build tanky quicker, Health & Mana Regen, 20% CDR to help Peel Quicker, and a great active for engage/Disengage situations.

2.) Relating to the first question, If you do the Relic Shield start building it into the face of the mountain. Wouldn't you want some form of Gold income in your Masteries setup? I Usually do 0/12/18 to have Strong early game defense (with Doran's Shield Start) while having some form of gold income for when i get kills/assists, and when my ADC is farming.

I'm just really curious on the relic shield the most, I would really like to hear your thoughts on it.

    Thank You

1.) One of Leona's weaknesses is her lack of sustain and peel. Leona's skillset is an extremely offensive one, and the Face of the Mountain gives her a defensive shield, offensive nuke that scales off hp (a nice damage that isn't reliant on allies), and sustain, rounding her off nicely.

2.) Gold income masteries favor a sit in a bush throwing stuff occasionally playstyle. Leona is a up in your face playstyle and as a result she requires radically different items and masteries than classic supports like Nami, Sona, and Taric

    Hope this helps!

    Awesome, Thank you!

  • #54 Foxtrail

Indeed, but keep in mind, you're not only building to counter, you're building by your play style. If you're passive with Leona, then build like so.

  • #62 thechosenone124

If you are planning to play a passive support with excellent late game power, then Leona is absolutely terrible (in my opinion). Leona has absolutely no passive power in lane except her threatening presence (which will be hurt if the enemy team senses your hesitation to jump them), and dozens of champions have "presence". The champions that can take that playstyle would be Annie or Thresh. They can be played passively yet still have terrifying lane presence. And their late game is still pretty good.

I never play passive with Leona, I'm very aggressive, sometimes I'm told I'm too aggressive. I was just curious about the Relic shield vs the Ancient coin start. To this day I still use the Ancient Coin to the Talisman of Ascension. I personal just see it more fit on Leona. But I agree with you 100% you shouldn't play passive with Leona at all.

  • #64 thechosenone124

Well, there's another reason to get shield on Leona: it makes you tankier. Coin gives health and mana regen, but mana isn't really an issue. Relic Shield makes you tanky, and also makes you harder to predict. If you have a coin and start walking through a minion wave, it's not gonna be hard to guess what you're planning on doing. But if you have a relic shield, there's a chance the enemy team will assume you just want to grab a minion and ignore you. Also, the changes have made relic shield more lucrative than coin unless you can't take a minion without taking a crap ton of harass.

Late game, it's sort of a toss up. On one hand, Face of the Mountain gives more useful stats (ie not mana regeneration and only a tiny bit less CDR). It also provides a shield for baiting and saving (because you sure as hell aren't buying Mikael's Crucible). On the other hand, Talisman provides slightly more CDR and an awesome speed buff

Why mana regen runes? Is it b/c you're constantly spamming? I play Leona a lot and rarely ever run out of mana with her.... (early game). Now mid and late. I tend to run out of mana a lot more... just curious on your thoughts on the mana regen.
