Jungle Routes
Standard Jungle Route
This standard jungle route allows you to focus on early levels as well as optimize on early farm. Start Ancient Golem (Blue Buff) -> Wolves -> Wraiths -> Lizard Elder (Red Buff).
Early 3 Invade Route
Nocturne has the blessing to be one of the faster junglers to achieve this. From Lizard Elder (Red Buff) -> Wraiths -> Ancient Golem (Blue Buff). You will reach a very fast level 3 and either go for a gank at a Solo Lane or get aggressive and Invade their jungle. A majority of the blue starters will only be level 2 when you meet them at their Red buff so you have a level advantage as well as being equipped with double buffs. Also nocturne is an exceptional duelist due to his skill set.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't ultimate too early when going into gank. Lot's of time you'll think you'll be in range just by running up to the lane but if you do it too soon, aren't in range, you've wasted all your ganking power and have to wait the full duration till you can use it again. Don't do the mistake of blowing your ulti too early or you'll really regret it.
- Use your ultimate to scare away enemies from allies who are being ganked! Yes you can actually scare away enemies from your allies with your ultimate. If you see two people are diving top, or bottom, you can use your ultimate (in the right situation of course) to scare them away because they fear the incoming Nocturne counter gank on them.
- You do disgusting damage early game, so use that to your advantage and gank often! Nocturne's power is in his ability to gank and deal high damage early game. Make sure you abuse every chance you get to ultimate a lane and get kills as it will snowball the game for your team hopefully for a win.
Synergies and Counters
Synergies
Twisted Fate: The Roam/Gank Poteintal from these two together is notorious to be extremely lethal post level 6. Also catching a vital target can set up a dragon or baron. With this combo you can go for both the Damage and/or Tank approach when building.
Janna: During teamfights a flash ult from Janna known for it's incredible distruption. Mixed with the vision debuff from Paranoia, team fights will be difficult for the enemy team. Also, this allows Nocturne to jump on a carry and duel them, which is one of Nocturne's main strengths. the +50 Damage from janna's shield and passive 3% movespeed buff, it puts nocturne at a great advantage over many ad carries. With this, you may want to go more assassin type build. Possible Yommu's Ghostblade and/or more damage items.
Orianna: Orianna made a scorching comeback with the recent tournaments (EU Regionals and S2 Championships). A popular strat to do with pair up Ori with a diving champion. What champ better to do it with other than Nocturne. You may want to focus your build more on the tanky side being that you'll be sitting in 5 people and possibly soaking up most of the enemy team's damage.
Counters
Jax: Fairly simple, most if not all of Nocturne's damage comes from auto attacks. Jax's counter strike mitigates all of Nocturne's damage output.
Malphite: Being that Nocturne procs well off from attack speed, Malphite's E would diminished half of Noc's 1v1 potential Also Malph has too many skills that Noc would need to block to negate his damage and killing potential.
Lee Sin: ^Exaclty like Malphite. Also If Nocturne jumps into a team, Lee Sin can easily kick Nocturne off a carry.

Posted 5/1/2013 12:25:23 AMwhy would you level up shroud of darkness before unspeakable horror if you are addressing a jungle role? It's useless because creeps don't cast spells. unspeakable horror however allows you to distract the alpha creep so you can either a) take it out with a minimum amount of health lost or b) take out its lessers quickly and isolate it

Posted 3/4/2013 5:47:07 PMYou are paying an extra 300 gold for 300 less HP, 30 more AD, and permaslow. If you honestly believe that 300 HP is more important than 30 AD and permaslow, then go right ahead.y

Posted 3/19/2013 4:25:35 AMAs a tanks the peel is insanely valuable, generally more so than the 300 hp and small regen from a Mogs. It's a preference/situational choice, but often keeping their carries in attack range or keeping people off of your carries is more important. Also 40% slow is Crazy, and that's before randuin's.

Posted 1/21/2013 3:31:35 PMThat was there since before this guide was updated to S3, so I'm not sure how relevant it is these days; but the items I believe are Randuin's Omen and Frozen Heart. This is because they shred Nocturne's AS, which is vital to his damage output.
