Olaf
Saintvicious' Leaguepedia Page
This build guide for Olaf is for jungle and is by Saintvicious, a platinum rated player on League of Legends. Olaf Jungle is still viable, however he is more often played in top lane. Massive true damage and resilience makes him good for diving onto carries.Required Reading:

Jungling Olaf
Jungling Olaf is quite easy, just remember when you are at a Jungle Camp use Olaf's Q right at his feet so it hits all the Jungle Creeps and he picks his axe up without having to move meaning Olaf's Q's Cooldown gets reduced by 6 seconds, so it can be spammed every few seconds if you keep doing this. Also remember to have your Smite up when your team is doing Dragon or Baron, if you don't have it up remember to tell your team, because its very important if you have Smite up or not, because if you don't the enemy team can easily steal the Dragon or Baron from your team. Also remember to keep track of the Jungle Timers because they are extremely important early game and if the enemy team gets all the Dragons and Buffs early game, it can severely hurt your team.
Jungle Timers:
- Blue Buff - 5 Minutes (Spawns at 1:55) ---> Next Spawn Point if you start at Blue Buff first is around the 7 Minute Mark.
- Red Buff - 5 Minutes (Spawns at 1:55) ---> Next Spawn Point if you start at Red Buff first is around the 7 Minute Mark.
- Dragon - 7 Minutes
- Baron - 7 Minutes
Counter Jungling
Counter Jungling as Olaf is usually a good idea, because for the most part Olaf can pretty much Outdamage any Junglers once he gets his Reckless Swing (E), because True Damage is just Overpowered. If Olaf gets caught by the enemy jungler in the enemy's jungle, Olaf can probably take that Jungler in a 1vs1 situation, but always be careful and check if the enemy team is converging at your point, if so then try to quickly escape.
Olaf vs Top Tier Junglers:
Alistar's Jungle Clear Speed is decent, but Alistar has one of the BEST ganks in the game since he has a knock back and a knock up. Whenever you see Alistar ganking, he will most likely get the kill unless the champion can Flash out or is hugging the tower. When it comes to Counter Jungling Alistar with Olaf, Olaf will probably be able to kill Alistar in a 1vs1 situation if he catches Alistar in the enemy jungle, but check if the enemy team is converging at your point, if so then quickly escape before Alistar uses his Knock Up and Knock Back on you. Most likely, Alistar will probably out gank Olaf for the most part.
Dr. Mundo is also a Tier 1 Jungler and also has a fast Jungle Clear Speed. Mundo's Damage Output is not to be underestimated because he is able to do some significant amount of damage, and its hard to runaway from a Mundo because of his Qs which will keep slowing you, because the Cooldown on Mundo's Q is not that long. Also Mundo's ganks are pretty good, but they rely on him being able to hit his Qs on the champion, because if he doesn't it will probably be a fail gank. When it comes to Counter Jungling Dr. Mundo with Olaf, Dr. Mundo will probably be able to out damage Olaf in a 1vs1 situation if either of them gets caught by the other.
Gangplank used to be an extremely popular Jungler, but lately he is not commonly picked as a Jungler, and more so picked for Top Lane. Though, he is still an exceptional Jungler and his Jungle Clear Speed is pretty quick because Gangplank's Q if used right after his Auto Attack will add an extra Attack in and the next Autto Attack will occur at the same time as if you didn't use Gangplank's Q, so its basically an extra Auto Attack. Gangplank's ganks are pretty good because his E gives Gangplank and his teammates near him extra Movement Speed when he uses it, also his Passive allows him to slow anyone he Auto Attacks or Qs for a short time. When it comes to Counter Jungling Gangplank with Olaf, Gangplank would probably trash on Olaf if Olaf gets caught by Gangplank in Gangplank's Jungle early game, because if Olaf doesn't have his E, the main nuke, Gangplank would probably be able to out damage Olaf, but Olaf does Jungle faster than Gangplank, so if Olaf can get to Gangplank's Blue Wraith before Gangplank, and Smite it, that will definately throw Gangplank off, but in a 1vs1 situation Gangplank would probably beat Olaf early game.
Lee Sin is a Tier 1 Jungler, and has a pretty fast Jungle Clear Speed. Lee's ganks are also very effective and almost always secure a kill if he is able to land his Q on the champion because once he does he can quickly slow the champion, and basically kill the champion. For the most part, Lee has better ganks than Olaf, but that does not mean Lee is stronger than Olaf. When it comes to Counter Jungling Lee with Olaf, Olaf will probably be able to kill Lee in a 1vs1 situation if he spots Lee in the enemy jungle, but try to dodge Lee's Q, and once you do go in for the kill because that's Lee's main source of damage early game. If Lee misses his Q, he pretty much won't be able to do much and will be forced to run.
Maokai is known for his ganks, because he is basically a CC machine considering he has a snare and a knock-back. Maokai's Jungle Clear Speed is decent, but most Maokai players start at Wraiths and throw a few Saplings to kill the Wraiths instantly and then goes to Blue Buff, you can quickly go to the enemy Wraiths, lure the Saplings out, then you just messed up Maokai's Jungle right there. Maokai will always outgank Olaf because Maokai has a click Snare while Olaf has a skill shot Slow, and Maokai is really known for his ganks. When it comes to Counter Jungling Maokai with Olaf, it should be easy because Maokai isn't capable of doing a 1vs1 with any champions early game so if you catch a Maokai in his Jungle, you can probably kill him, but make sure his team isn't coming to help him, because if they are you better get out before Maokai Snares you.
Nautilus is an amazing Jungler and was underestimated when he first came out, but Nautilus is really known for his ganks just like Maokai, but Nautilus has MUCH more CC then Maokai because Nautilus has a Snare from his Passive, a Grab-like skill with his Q, an AoE Slow with his W, and a Multi-Target Knock-up with his Ultimate. Nautilus is kind of weak in the Jungle though, and needs a decent leash on Blue Buff early game, so if you were to Counter Jungle Nautilus with Olaf, and you catch Nautilus off-guard you might be able to kill Nautilus depending on how you play that fight, but again don't underestimate Nautilus' Damage Output, because with his CC and his W, he can do some serious amounts of damage and even kill Olaf if you invade Nautilus as Olaf.
Nocturne is also a Tier 1 Jungler and known as a Carry Jungler. His Jungle Clear Speed is pretty fast because of his Q and his passive that hits multiple targets and gives him a much better sustain. Nocturne's ganks are pretty good prior to level 6, because of his Fear, but once he gets his Ultimate his ganks will almost always guarantee a kill because he can jump to an enemy champion from a far distance without the enemy champion even realizing. When it comes to Counter Jungling Nocturne with Olaf, Olaf might out-damage Nocturne, but Nocturne still might be able to kill Olaf because of Nocturne's Fear which is a huge factor. Nocturne will be able to get in atleast 2 more hits on you when you are feared, and it will give his teammates time to come help him.
Rammus is a decent jungler, but does not have the fastest Jungle Clear Speed. His ganks are pretty insane if he can get to the enemy champion by using his Powerball and then taunting. Once Rammus taunts a champion, thats pretty much a guaranteed kill for the most part. When it comes to Counter Junging Rammus with Olaf, Olaf would probably win a 1vs1 situation, but if Rammus' teammates are coming get out quickly before Rammus taunts you, because once he does, his teammates will be there by then and you will pretty much be dead.
Riven has recently became a very popular Jungler, and is actually a pretty strong Jungler. Riven's Jungle Clear Speed isn't amazing, but its decent. Riven's ganks are pretty good though because Riven has a Mini Stun and a Knock Back, which is just enough CC to get an enemy champion killed. When it comes to Counter Jungling Riven with Olaf, Olaf can probably Jungle faster than Riven, but Riven usually starts at Red Buff and ganks right after Red Buff usually, so you might be able to go steal the enemy's Blue Buff and take it for yourself or give it to your AP Mid. If you catch Riven in Riven's Jungle, you might lose to Riven in a 1vs1 situation, but it all depends on how you play the fight out.
Shaco has probably one of the best early game ganks in the game, if not the best because his Q is basically a Flash so he can just pop out of nowhere without the enemy champion noticing and kill the enemy champion. Though, early game Shaco is pretty strong, late game Shaco starts to fall off. Shaco's Jungle relies on his Jack in the Boxes, so if you invade the enemy Jungle's Blue Buff, and take aggro from Shaco's boxes, you pretty much ruined Shaco's Jungle because it will be harder for Shaco to get his Blue Buff, and he will need a harder leash. When it comes to Counter Jungling Shaco with Olaf, its pretty risky because Shaco could have placed Jack in the Boxes in bushes and such and usualy most Shacos, right after Blue Buff head to your Wraiths and put 3 or 4 Jack in the Boxes in the bush and wait for you to come and then instantly kill you. Also if you catch Shaco in his Jungle, be careful because even if you get Shaco down to one bar, he can quickly use his Q to get out and you will be in big trouble because his teammates will probably be coming to kill you,
Shyvana is also a pretty good jungler and has one of the fastest Jungle Clear Speeds in the game. Shyvana's ganks are okay prior to level 6 because Shyvana has really no CC so its hard to gank without having Shyvana's Ultimate to jump in on the champion. When it comes to Counter Jungling Shyvana with Olaf, Olaf would probably be able to kill Shyvana in a 1vs1 situation if you play it out correctly. When Shyvana uses her W, try to juke her until it goes on Cooldown, then you can easily kill Shyvana because most of Shyvana's Damage Output comes from her W, so if her W is on Cooldown you can kill her easily with Olaf.
Skarner is a Tier 1 Jungler and can do some serious damage which should not be underestimated at all. Skarner's Q combined with Sheen does a significant amount of damage. Skarner's Jungle Clear Speed is about the same as Olaf's Jungle Clear Speed, but Skarner is a bit faster so it would be hard to Counter Jungle Skarner, but if you do and you catch Skarner in his Jungle, you probably won't kill Skarner in a 1vs1 situation because without Olaf's E, Olaf doesn't do as much damage, so Skarner can definitely out damage you with his Q and easily run away or chase you with his W and also Skarner's Q has a Slow Proc to so, once you get Qed once by Skarner you are going to be slowed forever unless you Flash out, Ghost, or something of that sort. Also Skarner's ganks are amazing once he is level 6 because once he has suppress, everytime he ganks he will almost always get a kill, so Skarner will out gank Olaf for the most part.
Udyr is also a Tier 1 Jungler, and has very good sustain with his W, a stun from his E, and decent AoE Damage from his R. Udyr has one of the fastest Jungle Clear Speeds and used to be the fastest in the jungle prior to certain changes. Udyr's ganks are okay, because he can be easily kited and if he wants to stun a champion, he needs to be within melee range. When it comes to Counter Jungling Udyr with Olaf, Udyr will probably be able to kill Olaf in a 1vs1 situation because Udyr's W gives him extra Lifesteal and a shield, Udyr also has a stun while Olaf only has a slow, and Udyr's R can do some significant amount of damage, but again, it could go either way buts it more favored towards Udyr if either of you two get caught in either jungle, so I personally wouldn't Counter Jungle Udyr because Udyr is stronger than Olaf, and Udyr can jungle much faster than Olaf also.
Warwick is a farming Jungler meaning Warwick has to farm to level 6 as soon as possible, because prior to level 6, Warwick's ganks are pretty bad, but once he is level 6 he will get his Suppress which will almost always guarantee a kill when he ganks with his Ultimate. Warwick's Jungle Clear Speed is pretty good, and he will probably be in his Jungle most of the time prior to level 6 and because of Warwick's Q and Passive he has great sustain and will probably be close to full HP most of the time. When it comes to Counter Jungling Warwick with Olaf and Olaf catches Warwick in Warwick's Jungle, Warwick will probably be able to kill Olaf in a 1vs1 situation if Olaf doesn't have his E because Warwick has crazy sustain and can recover over 150 HP with just one Q which is like 2 or 3 Auto Attacks from Olaf, but if Warwick gets you done to less than 50% Health Points, and Warwick has his E, it will be pretty hard to escape Warwick because Warwick's E gives him extra Movement Speed if an enemy champion with less than 50% Health Points is in a certain radius, so be careful when invading a Warwick.
Tactics
Ganking
This is why the Jungler is one of the most important roles in the game. Besides keep tracking of all the jungle timers, warding, and clearing the jungle, the most important job of a jungler is ganking. Ganks are the primary sources of kills during the laning phase.

Top Lane Ganks:
Gank 1: That's a lane gank for top lane which means that you tell your top laner to push the lane so you can sneak into the top bushes unseen, and then you wait for the enemy champion to overextend a little, that's when you throw an axe to slow the enemy champion and try to kill them.
Gank 2: That's a river gank, which is a basic gank, all you have to do is hide in the river bush until the enemy champion overextends a little, that's when you throw an axe to slow the enemy champion and try to kill them.
Gank 3: That's also a river gank, but this time you go around and gank the enemy champion from behind, so if they try to run you can quickly use your axe to slow the enemy champion from behind and try to kill the enemy champion.
Mid Lane Ganks:
Gank 4 and 7: Those are ganks where you sneak up behind the enemy champion and use your Q to slow the enemy champion from behind if they try to run away. This gank is reliable if Mid Lane is a frozen lane meaning all the minions are in the middle of the map and neither of the two champions are overextending, so you can sneak up from behind and taunt the enemy champion.
Gank 5 and 6: These are river ganks, which is when you go in from the side and throw your axe at the enemy champion and attempt to kill them. This gank is unreliable if the lane is frozen meaning all the minions are in the middle of the map and neither of the two champions are overextending.
Bot Lane Ganks:
Gank 8: This is a river gank, which is a basic gank and all you do is charge in and and throw an axe at the enemy champion and attempt to kill them.
Gank 9: This is a lane gank, which is when you tell your Bot Lane to push, so you can sneak into the bottom bushes unseen, and wait until the enemy champions overextend then you quickly throw an axe to slow the enemy champion and go for the kill.
Warding
Wards are an important part of the game, and can basically even carry you to victory :P. Wards are the most Overpowered items in League of Legends because they grant vision in a specific area for three minutes, so you can know where the enemy is, when to initiate, or if they are going to gank you.

Red - Places that should be warded throughout the game
Orange - Places that could be warded that would tremendously help out your team
Grey - Places that could be warded, but is not completely necessary to.
Synergies and Counters
Synergies
Flings or Pulls and such go very well with Olaf, because once Olaf gets close to any enemy champion, he will be able to nuke them easily and that enemy champion won't be able to escape because of Phage's Slow and Olaf's Q's Slow. Olaf can easily nuke any champions even tanks because of his True Damage Nuke which has a fairly low Cooldown.
Counters
These are the basic counters to Olaf, because they can easily chase down Olaf since Jax can jump on Olaf, Kennen can use his E for bonus Movement Speed and Jarvan can use his E - Q combo on Olaf. Though they all have CC and when Olaf uses his Ultimate they are immune to all CC, they are still very strong against Olaf because when Olaf's Ultimate is down, CC is Olaf's worst nightmare.
