The Analysis Corner - Fnatic sOAZ's Renekton (EU LCS)

The Analysis Corner

Introduction

Hey Everyone, my name is Shakarez, others know me as Kayle Bot. I'm a Diamond 1 Kayle only player and I'm a content manager for Lolpro.com.

I'd like to start off by saying that THIS IS NOT A GUIDE. This is an analysis series about certain players and builds that we'll be covering, for now it's in the guide list because we still don't have our blog section up, but it will be soon

sOAZ has played Renekton thrice, with a 100% win rate. The two games I decided to cover were the games versus Alliance and Millenium. sOAZ brings a different approach to the croc by getting a Blade of the Ruined King on hi,

Renekton is a lane bully that is one of the most strongest champions in the current meta, there are 4 main reasons why sOAZ picked up Blade of the Ruined King on Renekton.

Why Blade of the Ruined King?

There are 4 reasons for sOAZ’s reasoning behind getting Blade of the Ruined King on Renekton, two being general reasons that apply for any champion and the other two being related to Renekton’s Kit

1. It’s a great standalone item

In the current meta in competitive play, you’ll usually have 1 or even 2 super-tanks. This means Blade of the Ruined King is a perfect counter to the health stacking meta. The passive makes all of your attacks deal 5% of a target’s current health, which is obviously a lot of extra damage when your target is over 2000hp (extra 100 damage at 2000 hp and 150 damage at 3000).

  • Blade of the Ruined King

Passive Unique: Your attacks deal 5% of the target's current health in physical damage

One thing worthy of a mention, in both games you dont see sOAZ with a standalone dagger, this is because it’s not really a worthy purchase. Blade of the Ruined King has a weird build path, you’ll mostly see people going straight for cutlass but only completing the item when they have enough money to finish the whole item.

2. The active lets you catch carries with more ease.

Not only does the Blade active slow your target, it also speeds you up, making it much easier to catch targets you want to stick to.

Active Unique: Drains target champion, dealing 15% of the champion's maximum Health in physical damage (min. 100) and healing you for the damage dealt. Additionally you steal 30% of their movement speed for 3 seconds - 90 second cooldown. (450 range)

Paired with Slice and Dice and a very strong stun it should be very easy to lock down a target or in a worst case scenario to force a flash.

It also does tons of damage because it deals 15% of a champions maximum Health. Used on an ADC mid to late game it will mean an extra 200 damage or more, on a tankier target with say, 3000 hp, it’ll translate into 450 damage dealt instantly.

 3. Renekton generates fury with auto-attacks

Ok I’ll admit this one is not as important or relevant as the other ones, but it’s a plus of grabbing Blade. You gain 5 Fury per auto, if you auto 40% faster you’ll obviously get to the red zone of the fury faster, despite Renekton being mainly looked at as an AD Caster.

4. Renekton’s Ruthless Predator applies on-hit effects more than once!

So let’s take a look at his tooltip on Ruthless Predator:

Ruthless Predator
Renekton's next attack strikes twice, dealing 1*AD physical damage (10/30/50/70/90 + 150% of his Attack Damage) and stuns for 0.75 seconds. Each hit applies on-hit effects.

50 Fury Bonus: Renekton attacks three times, dealing physical damage (15/45/75/105/135 + 225% of his Attack Damage) and stuns his target for 1.5 seconds.
Cost
No Cost or 50 Fury
Range
300
Cooldown
13/12/11/10/9 Seconds

Active: Renekton’s next basic attack will hit twice, stunning his target for 0.75 seconds and dealing physical damage equal to a base amount plus a percentage of his attack damage. Each hit applies on-hit effects and grants Fury.

Fury Bonus: Ruthless Predator will strike his opponent 3 times, dealing 50% additional damage and increasing the stun duration to 1.5 seconds. Each hit still applies on-hit effects, but does not grant Fury.

So a normal stun will apply the Blade of the Ruined King passive twice, and when he has his fury bonus, it’ll apply Thrice!

That’s 10% or 15% current health taken immediately from a target. Not only that, since the hits are dealt in a single instant, it actually is 10 or 15% current HP in physical damage instead of the slightly lower % from 3 Blade of the Ruined King hits spread out over a longer time frame, If you chain it properly with autoattacks, it can vary from 20% to 25% in a short period of time, which is kind of ridiculous.
