Renekton is probably my favorite champ, and i have found that he not only makes an amazing top laner, but he has one of the fastest jungle clear times, and pulls a very strong mid lane. I have found that the most effective form of getting kills early to stomp people late game is to get basic boots, vamp scepter, brutaliser, then RUSH a Blade of the Ruined King. This allows my w to do 15% of their HP when used with your passive proc, as well as giving attack speed to proc passive faster, and gives you a much needed slow and sustain. The next 2 items are Merc treads for the Tenacity, then a Spirit Visage, this gives you CDR, more sustain, HP and magic resist (because at this point you are in the middle of teamfights). There are very few matchups that this build doesn't dominate. (I have a HORRIBLE time against Teemo in lane, if anyone can help me....IM BEGGING YOU!!!)
Teemo rush a Hexdrinker If he blind shots you don't use your W it will miss just Q him and get out. Tell your jungler u hate teemo and to come top most likely he hates Teemo too. Try to fight him when his Q is down u will win every time thats his strength his Q.
Great guide ^^. When I first bougth Renekton I did awful for like 4 games straight. Stopped playing him for a while.
Now, somehow, a couple of weeks later I'm doing so well with him. In lane you can dominate your opponent, and even if you don't, he's tanky enough to not GET dominated. Late game you're just unkillable and with Dominus + Sunfire Cape you just do so much damage if you sit on the enemy carries. Plus you can armor shred which is also really helpful for the team.
Really, really solid top lane champion. I've been testing and trying new things, and this guy is really strong. Up there with champions like Elise, Shen, etc.
Hi, guys, I've been playing this for a while now, and decided to learn the in-depth mechanics of playing renekton.
What my question is, is how do I know which items scale well with his abilities and his passive. For example I usually get sunfire cape on Renekton, because It gives 40 magic damage, and also renektons R (ult) also scales of AP.
What other items help with his abilities and passive?
Thanks

In my opinion there are so many viable items on renekton. As you mentioned his passive I can recommend Blade of the ruined King. The atackspeed makes you gain fury faster. I'm online on phone. I'm gonna edit this post later to list up some viable items.
A very solid counter to Rene is Ryze. You can harrass quite freely so long as you are using your binding to stop him mid slice and dice. put an extra early level into it before maxing q.
I actually meant top lane Ryze. If you are playing draft/ranked, feel free to pick top lane Ryze and if your jungle is AD you should be fine assuming your mid is AP. If your jungle and mid are both AP though, a good all around counter might be someone like Yorick. You should never loose lane as Yorick, but be careful not to get ganked. Another great pick is Jayce. His knock back is a counter to Renekton's Slice and Dice and being ranged is great. Other matchups that are usually fine with Rene are Elise, Kennen, (if you're good) and Malph, seeing as stacking armor is his main source of damage.
"Direct counters to Renekton in a solo lane are Gangplank, Cho’Gath past 6, Swain early game, Lee Sin if played right, Lanewick, and Udyr. These champs either have superior poking power, or way too much sustain to harass. Renekton will also find that teams with superior control difficult to disengage from. If these champions are in the game, you may want to ask for the mid lane."
Copied right from the Strategy and tactics part of this guide.
For the matchup against Garen: Its pretty easy to activate W when he comes to you and Q him before he silences you. After the silence get the AA off to stun him, meanwhile silence wears off and you can E out of his spin.
Irelia: I don't see why Irelia shall be a counter though. You can stomp her earlygame. Beware of ganks, when you hit lvl 6 before her just kill her. At the later levels/11-18/ its pretty hard to duel her, but actually who can duel a lvl 18 Irelia(except Jax mb) ? :) I remember Wickd played Renekton against Irelia to shut her down, succesfully.
Malphite: Honestly this is the hardest matchup. If he does not die early and gets some armor there is pretty much nothing you can do without some hard ganks. Maybe you can outsustain him, due to the fact he lacks Mana early. Get some pressure and let him stay manaless on lane and you have freefarm. If he goes back, you hit lvl 6 before him by pushing the lane to turret and make him lose XP. If you do so, you could get a kill with the level advantage at lvl 6. If you manage to get an early kill on him, you can snowball the lane by building Armor pen such as Brutalizer or Last Whisper. Lategame there is pretty much nothing to do agaist him, ignore him and go for the carrys.
Elise: As Elise is getting more popular, I do see her top very often and have to say she is a really annoying opponent. Tips for this matchup: She has no real ultimate, you should have the advantage at lvl 6. Otherwise in my opinion Renekton is very strong at lvl 3. If you manage to get a 50Fury W off, followed by Q, AA, E, AA, Ignitet could be enough. But beware, if she starts Cloth Armor you may find yourself into her creepwave not dealing enough damage and she picks up the kill instead.
Hope i could help, sorry for bad english

Posted 4/15/2013 2:15:28 PMI played Renekton now from Season 1 on.
I love this Champion and the best Items fitting to his Skillset are in my opinion:
Spirit Visage > Increases Q Spell effectiveness a lot + Spellvamp or Health reg. if build.
Randuins > Makes it almost impossible for the target to escape due to your 2 gap closers and stun. (prefered over botrk)
Black Cleaver > Best AOE armor shred if 2nd E with fury is used. Also Q AOE armor shred.
Sunfire/Hydra > Situational. Both are good for Splitpushing and maximizing your AOE dmg output.
Bloodthirster/Warmogs > Situational. Both are fine for sustaining if your Q isnt enough. Although Renektons Skillset scales really well with AD.
CDR shoes/ Armor- or MR shoes > Situational. CDR shoes + Spirit visage + Black Cleaver = Beast
