Item Build
Starting Items
Due to the high attack speed and damage steroids his Q gives, Hunter's Machete will be made of great use of. Especially in Season 3 Jungle.
Mid Game Items
Brutalizer is a good early buy on Rengar. All of its stats are very desirable on Rengar, particularly the cooldown reduction for obvious reasons, and the armor penetration. The armor penetration synergizes well with all the penetration you get from other areas, such as runes, masteries.
More than likely if you do not get fed and have enough money for a Brutalizer, a Mandred's is a much safer purchase and will allow you to plow through the jungle. Wriggles is not necessary but nice to have if you want some life steal.
Aegis of the Legion is incredible and a must need on Junglers, let alone Rengar. the HP, armour, and MR will be of great use due to his Battle Roar (W).
Locket of the Iron Solari is another powerful buy on Rengar. This is since the current "meta" of HP stacking is extremely powerful, in addition to the other powerful stats it offers such as armor, cooldown reduction and the active being an AoE team shield.
Mobility Boots is a viable option for boots. It will allow you to turn invisible and quickly by pass wards or just walk into lane and gank.
End Game Items
Your full game build should always be situatonial, especially on tanky assassins. Build accordingly to their team and what you NEED to do in order to give your team an advantage. In general however, you are aiming to build tanky /w CDR in order to utilize Battle Roar as well as possible. The combination of Bulwark and Spirit Visage should be plenty of MR for you, in addition to Battle Roar. If not, get another high-end MR item such as Maw of Malmortius. Armor options include Bulwark, Omens, Guardian Angel, and Sunfire. Sunfire is a really good item as it will add to your AoE magic damage, as well as make you incredibly tanky vs physical damage. A late game HP item would be Warmog's. Take Mercury or Ninja Tabi depending on the enemy composition to maximize your tankiness.
If you aren't the main source of your tank line you can go along the Trinity Force/Black Cleaver path and go more offensive, if not Frozen Mallet is extremely good on him and lets him stick to most targets.
If you feel as you are very very far ahead and can play the assassin role effectively without having to build resistances or hp, Bloodthirster, Last Whisper, and will all provide Rengar great stats to accomplish the assassin duty as well as the "kill the tanks faster" role.

Posted 5/20/2013 3:02:17 AMPro-tip: It is possible to use Smite while Thrill of the Hunt (R) is active without breaking stealth, this allows for one of the sneakiest Baron/Dragon-steals in League. It is also possible (I recommend it for Assassin Rengar) to use a ferocious Q, ult and wait for feriocity to stack back to five before you jump a victim and land not one, but TWO orange Q's in a squishy's face before proceeding with normal Q and whatever else if they're not dead yet.

I would also like to thank you, Lexvink, for making this guide. I have changed my masteries, runes and added items to my build to try out a tankier role with my newfound favourite.

Posted 2/20/2013 4:01:16 PMAny new updates for this guide?? Is Rengar still viable for ranked games? He happens to be one of my favorite junglers but after the nerfs I barely see him anymore. I used to build AD on him like Lee Sin, but lately I found it's more successful to build him as tanky as you can get.
Warmog's, Bulwark, Mercury's Treads/Mobility boots (depending on the game), Randuin's and if the game goes well, Tri force and Black Cleaver or Malmortius

Posted 2/18/2013 3:24:40 PMMy ideal Jungle build when doing well would be the following: Mercury's Treads, Wriggle's Lantern, Bonetooth Necklace, Phage, Spirit Visage and Maw of Malmortius.
If doing good I would swap Wriggles with The Bloodthirster and would build Frozen Mallet if need to be tanky and if not I would build into Trinity Force.
I used your rune set up and tweaked a few points in mastery page. This guide help me finally win a game jungling as Rengar lol

Posted 2/20/2013 4:04:02 PMExcept for a few junglers, Wriggle's is pretty much useless atm. It's better to sit on Madred's Razors the whole game, since Wriggle's cost so much for such low stats it gives, think about it, 900 more gold for just +15 AD +5 armor and %10 lifesteal. For just 100 more gold you can get a nice Giant's Belt, which Rengar absolutely needs.

Posted 2/11/2013 4:35:37 PMFixed it. The Masteries were not updated, not sure why, but it should be 9/21 with a focus in CDR and % armor pent in the offense tree and your normal 21 points in the defense tree with some variations.

Initial delay reduced to 1 second from 1.25 (still can be delayed up to 3 seconds).
Stealth duration increased to 7 seconds from 5.
Even a better stealth than Twitch, which makes a little sense cause it's an ultimate.

Posted 1/20/2013 6:15:30 AMTwitch has the same and i dont see people whining at him. The only difference from Twitch is that the initial delay is 1.25 but Rengar got buffed and they put his stealth down to 1 sec compared to Twitchs 1.25.

Posted 1/21/2013 1:35:17 PMPeople are just annoyed that they can't go invisible now no matter what for a long period of time making them ungankable/killable in teamfights. It was ridiculous and if the entire team focuses on you the fact you can go invisible without even a fade time for that longwas ridiculous.
