The Analysis Corner

Video Version

Hey Everyone, my name is Shakarez, others know me as Kayle Bot. I'm a Diamond 1 Kayle only player and I'm a content manager for

I'd like to start off by saying that THIS IS NOT A GUIDE. This is an analysis series about certain players and builds that we'll be covering, for now it's in the guide list because we still don't have our blog section up, but it will be soon

Darien was the first pro player using the advantage of the new gold generation items out of the Support Role. Face of the Mountain has many Scalings related to maximum health, so super tanks can definitely use this item to a comp's advantage.

Face of the Mountain's Stats and Gold Value

Apart from Base Stats, other reasons to get FOTM

Looking solely at base stats, you’ll notice this item is already cost-efficient by itself. It’s worth roughly 200 more gold than the stats given, meaning it has 1.11 cost efficiency, which is great since we’re not even looking at the passive and the active!

However we're completely ignoring both the active and the passive on Face of the Mountain

  • First off the heal given from the execute actually scales off of 1% of the user’s max hp. This isn’t really that big of a deal but I felt like saying it. In Darien’s case, since he had 3800 hp he was giving 88 health from minion executes (50+38)
  • Secondly and much more importantly, the shield you have scales off of 10% of your maximum health. This is actually very impactful.

Looking at the health values of the user you’ll see that when you have a very tanky champion, that’ll mean you’ll give a very strong shield!

Also to further prove that this is a very cost efficient item, you’ll notice how much gold worth a shield with those hp values is worth.

Darien's Face of the Mountain

In Darien’s case, his endgame build had 3818 Health, meaning he could shield anyone for 381.8  health. This is literally the same as investing on a giants belt!

Two other benefits of Face of the Mountain:

Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that the shield explodes dealing magic damage based on the target's AD and AP (100% of target's AD + 30% of target's AP)
The scaling off of AD is actually very high. Putting the Shield on Himself would do 195 damage when exploding and putting the Shield on Genja would mean 284 potential damage with the shield explosion.

As a final note I'd like to mention that Face of the Mountain is a very strong tool for late game pushing. The execute scales off of 100% of the user's AD so Darien was executing any close-by minion under 400 hp. This is minor, but I felt like it was worthy of a mention as well.

Taipei Assassin’s comp

A super strong engage team with Sivir’s Ultimate, paired with a plethora of Crowd Control coming from Leona, Jax and Evelynn, not to mention Zed’s immense assassination power!

Darien’s purchase is simply a way of gambit fighting against the assassination power of zed and the power that the TPA comp potentially had of removing someone from the map really fast!

Overall the Face of the Mountain was a very smart purchase on super tanks like Mundo or Shyvana, albeit we didn’t get to see much usage from it, as Gambit were already somewhat ahead.

Another note I’d like to make would be the overall itemization by Gambit. We see Edward’s Sona with a Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Diamondprox’s Lee Sin with Sunfire, Randuin’s and Ruby Sightstone not to mention the very tanky Darien and Genja who likes to get a Guardian Angel earlier than most AD Carries, Gambit played it safe and also very smart, completely nullifying TPA’s comp.
