As with many junglers who play the role of bruiser, you get attack speed to significantly increase your jungle speed, defensive yellow and blues, and movement speed quintessences so you can get to the enemy.

These 21 defense masteries makes you a lot tankier and the increased health scales nicely with your passive. The 9 if the offense tree will help your jungle speed a lot and gives your W a nice damage boost with the armor penetration.

Smite is self explanatory, it is a must have for junglers, and learning how to smite at the last second is one of the hardest skills to master, but one of the most important. Remember that it deals true damage which increases as your levels increase, keep this in mind when trying to out smite and enemy that is not the same level as you.
Flash is the best summoner spell in the game and is very useful for Volibear. You want to use flash to escape, and to avoid being kited. Usually enemies will be aware and it can be difficult for you to fling them. If you charge, then flash into E, your Q will still be active making it easy to follow up with a fling which can ensure you a kill if your allies are there to follow up.
