  • OGN Summer Championship 2012 Finals

    • By Asilwen 9/11/2012 9:34:24 AM

    • 0

The stage was set: this was the moment the entire world was waiting for. After a summer of excitement and dedication, heartbreak and tears, the OGN Summer Championship 2012 finally came to an end today with the finals match between CLG.EU and Azubu Frost. During the pregame interview with the teams, CLG.EU was quoted as saying that they felt Azubu Blaze was the stronger of the teams. After some more banter back and forth between both teams and a great performance of Daylight's End, Diana's theme, the match was underway.

    The Early Match Dominance

Game 1 started off with the odds in Azubu Frost's favour, as their team comp was better for winning the lane phase and early/mid game. CLG.EU showed great skill however by dominating early in that game and preventing Frost from getting the early advantage their team composition needed. With some great plays top lane, CLG.EU was able to steamroll the lane phase. The game started going downhill after some bad engages and some great team fights for CLG. This continued until they eventually got the victory in game 1. A similar theme happened in game 2 with Azubu Frost losing once again bringing the series to 2-0 in favour of CLG.EU. It was looking great for Counter Logic Gaming.

    The Rally Back

Despite being down 2-0, Azubu Frost remained poised and confident. The odds seemed against them but you could see that their practice helped them stay calm. As the match went on to game 3 it was back and forth with both teams staying very even. Azubu Frost was running a global composition with a very awesome Lux/Ezreal bottom lane. The long range burst the team had played a huge factor as the big play of the game happened when Frost baited a baron attempt, then immediately turned onto CLG and burst Wickd and inevitably winning Frost the team fight they needed to then take Baron and clinch game 3.

Game 4 had fairly standard compositions on both sides, nothing crazy like Zyra or Lux support like we saw in earlier games. This game, similarly to Game 3 was even for a majority of it. The "X factor" for Azubu Frost was the bottom lane of Woong and Madlife. Madlife's Blitzcrank grabs were so huge and game changing that without such stellar play from him the game may have went differently. Azubu Frost just kept catching people off guard using the Blitzcrank Grab combined with Anivia walls. The constant grabs are what made this game go from a sort of stalemate to a game that quickly snowballed in Frost's favour, getting them the win they needed in Game 4.

    The Blind Pick

It all would come down to this. A summer of competition all lead up this game. In the OGN League if a Best of 5 Match goes to Game 5, that game is played as a blind pick. Surprisingly to almost everyone, Froggen did not pick Anivia and instead went to try to counter what they thought Azubu would pick by playing Diana. And it worked, as arguably Froggen was the only player on CLG.EU to win their lane. This was the theme, as contrary to the previous games, CLG.EU seemed nonexistent in this game as it quickly went in Frost's favour. Azubu had some great ganks and stellar plays that CLG.EU just could not compete with. Even with amazing play from Froggen, it just was not enough. Azubu Frost won this game and the match, making them the OGN Summer Champions of 2012 after  being down 0-2 in the beginning.

Amazing play from Azubu Frost, congratulations to them for their incredible come back and victory over CLG.EU.

  • MLG SUMMER ARENA NEW YORK - MEET AZUBU BLAZE AND BLACK

    • By dcgreen 8/3/2012 2:39:32 PM

    • 0

MLG Summer Arena is upon us this weekend August 3-5! Four teams will be competing from all different parts of the world in a round robin seeding phase followed by a Grand Finals and 3rd place finals! The teams competing are Team SoloMid and Team Curse from North America, Team Black from Europe, and finally Azubu Blaze from Korea. TSM was automatically qualified after winning MLG Anaheim in June; while both Curse and Black qualified via the NA and EU Qualifiers respectively. Azubu Blaze was invited after their impressive 1st place performance at the OGN Spring 2012 Championship and to make their MLG debut, as well as be the first Asian team to compete in a North American LAN event! Over the next 2 days we here at Reign of Gaming will be taking the time to do back stories on the teams, get everyone introduced, and make some bold predictions so you know exactly what to look forward to this coming weekend. Today we will be covering the foreign teams, Azubu Blaze and BLACK

    For event info click HERE!

    Azubu Blaze

Azubu Blaze comes into the MLG Summer Arena as many people's not just foreign favorite, but favorite to win the whole tournament. They originated under the MiG banner as MiG Frost's "B" team, but quickly erased that notion after beating CLG Prime in the semifinals and Locodoco's then vaunted and Korean favorite for the event, MiG Frost, in the finals of the Spring OGN Championships. Azubu Blaze features the much more aggressive Korean style of play, and their teamwork is a sight to behold. They have been living and training in a Korean gaming house for months now, and they seem to always be on the same page. Their AD carry, Cpt Jack, is one of the best in the world and truly shines in his ability to team-fight.

Blaze hasn't gotten a chance to play any of these teams, but with their OGN experience they are no strangers to huge LAN events. They have knocked off North American teams before, CLG.Prime in the Spring OGN semifinals, and Dignitas in the group stages of the Summer OGN. Expect them to come out and impress with some jungle Skarner play from Helios, or some Anivia mid from Ambition. They have the ability and skill to force the issue early in the game and snowball it hard to a victory. It's hard to find a weak link anywhere in their team, and that's a testament to how hard they train and their cohesiveness together.

BLACK (Bacon Lovers Are Crazy Kool)

Black is the true wild card in this event. They qualified as Europe's representative by beating Curse.EU 2-0, but they just formed as a team at the end of May. In fact, they did not even finalize a lineup until the middle of June. However, the promise is there and if teams no very little about Azubu Blaze, they'll know less about BLACK coming into the event. They know that very little is expected out of them, and come in having nothing to lose which can be a dangerous thing for their opponents. They've already shocked Europe by qualifying, and they are looking to shock the rest of the League of Legends world with victories over big name teams this weekend. Fatmamma's support Blitzcrank is a scary thing to see, and their opponents shouldn't be surprised if he is able to grab a victory or two by himself.

Unfortunately for BLACK though, Napraem and Diqozy (jungle and AD respectively) were not able to secure travel plans in time, and they will be forced to play with two ringers (Svenskeren in the junglea and Rekkles as AD carry). The loss of Napraen in the jungle could hit them particularly hard, but team captain and AP mid player FacerollerX would still love nothing more than to get his team on the map than with big victories here. to find out more about BLACK (or to wish them good luck at MLG) check them out onFacebook.

  • MLG SUMMER ARENA NEW YORK - TEAM SOLOMID AND TEAM CURSE!

MLG Summer Arena is upon us this weekend August 3-5! Four teams will be competing from all different parts of the world in a round robin seeding phase followed by a Grand Finals and 3rd place finals! Over the next 2 days we here at Reign of Gaming will be taking the time to do back stories on the teams, get everyone introduced, and make some bold predictions so you know exactly what to look forward to this coming weekend. Today we will be covering the NA teams Team Solomid and Team Curse.

    For event info click HERE!

    Team Solomid

Team SoloMid is one the oldest names in in the League of Legends scene. They have maintained a very stable roster with their only change being Dyrus replacing TheRainMan in the top lane after their disappointing 7th place finish at IEM Hannover. Since Dyrus joined the team though, TSM has won every single LAN event they have attended including the last MLG event at Providence! However, their recent online performances have been inconsistent with them losing in the last 3 TSM Invitationals. They also managed only a 4th place showing in the Elite of Europe tournament losing to their European rivals Moscow 5, who dismissed them effortlessly. Reginald's performance has been erratic lately, but it could be due to the fact he is trying to practice with more unfamiliar champions in high competition environments. Recent common champion picks for him have been Twisted Fate, Gragas, and the new mage Zyra (the tournament will be played on the Jayce patch however).

TSM is still clearly the NA favorite and they normally don't disappoint when it comes to LAN, but they also have no experience against either Azubu Blaze or BLACK. It will be exciting to see how their playstyles clashes with these unfamiliar teams, particularly the reigning Korean OGN champions Azubu Blaze who many (including CLG.EU's jungle Snoopeh and Joe Miller) think will take 1st at this weekend's event.

    Team Curse

Curse has had one of the most inconsistent rosters in the League of Legends competitive scene, but they have finally formed a solid lineup with the additions of Saintvicious in the jungle and Westrice top lane. For this tournament, they will be playing with old top lane Pobelter because Westrice is unable to attend. The team has been practicing and living together in the Curse CEO's San Francisco penthouse as they prepare to move into their Beverly Hills Gaming House and really kick start their training for Season 2. After seeing the results of the MLG NA Qualifiers, and in their temporary living situation, Curse is ready to make a name for themselves again and really show that they are serious contenders for not only the MLG Summer Arena top spot, but first at the Season 2 Championships as well. Their success will be likely linked to how well Saintvicious is able to do in the jungle. He plays a more carry-oriented style than many other junglers using Shyvana or Mundo to get as much farm as possible.

Curse may be the only team prepared for the Asian team Azubu Blaze, as both Saintvicious and Elementz have experience playing Asian teams from their days on CLG. Saintvicious in particular will remember that Azubu Blaze is the team that knocked out CLG in the OGN semifinals earlier this year. With Saint and Elementz being the dominant personalities on Curse, they have the potential to lead Curse to victory against the aggressive and deceptive play style of Blaze.

For the majority of summoners unfortunate enough to not be in New York to watch the event live, MLG is running a special promotion to win a MLG LoL Arena HD Pass which allows you to watch the event stream in HD for free! • SAINTVICIOUS JOINING CURSE - CRUMBZZ TO DIGNITAS - VOYBOY TO CLG

    • By dcgreen 5/19/2012 3:40:06 PM
    • Category IconeSports
    • 1

Longtime CLG jungler will become part of Team Curse, joining the team as the jungler. Curse will be saying goodbye to Crumbzz in an amicable parting of ways for personal reasons .  CLG is not without a new lineup though, adding Voyboy from Dignitas to their team for top lane and sliding HotshotGG to the jungle. Dignitas will add Crumbzz to their lineup as well, and he will play top lane.  All the top NA teams shuffling around as the Season 2 Championship draws near. More updates and statements from the teams as they come in.

Saint's statement on his twitter can be found here

    Crumbzz statement on leaving:

"As the season 2 championship approaches many teams are scrambling to practice and get into a good stride before this major event. As many of you may have guessed, a lot of teams are getting gaming houses as a way to ensure their devotion to the game as well as increased practice hours to prepare them for the gold. Team Curse is no exception. Unfortunately , I cannot attend the gaming house that Curse has so eagirly offered to provide, due to personal reasons, primarily University as I wish to continue my studies without a halt, and moving into a gaming house would not allow me to do so. It is with good blood that I am announcing my leave from Team Curse. I am forever grateful for the opportunities they have provided me in the League of Legends scene, and the memories, as well as the friends that I will continue to have over at the flamed logo team. It may be sad for some, but I must do what is in my best interest. I would like to thank all of Curse's staff for creating one of the most pleasurable work environments I have been involved with, as well as the entirety of my team. Jacky, Pobelter, Elementz and Cop for being fantastic teammates as well as great people and players. And most of all my manager Liquid112 for having provided me the opportunity to join Team Curse in the 1st place and being the most hardworking person I have ever met, as well as handling any situation thrown his way perfectly, including this one. I thank my fans for grinding this with me, they are the driving reason behind this game and behind my motivation, and hopefully staying with me in the future. I'm going to try my best to remain in the competitive scene of League of Legends as I just can't get enough of it. It's been a blast, but this is goodbye to Team Curse, and I wish them nothing but the best in the future.— Alberto Rengifo, Today 2:45 PM"

Liquid's statement on the future of Curse:

"Hey everyone, were enthralled about Saint joining the team, this bad ass mofo has huge amount of tournament experience, played on what was the best team in NA and now brings a wealth of skill to Team Curse.  We can’t be more excited.  With that being said, we are also very sad to see Crumbzz go."

    Voyboy's twitter confirmation:

Xpecial and TSM are the only team standing still in all this, and at least one of their members is as blown away by all this as the rest of the community is. Xpecial remarked on his twitter how surprised he was, and then dropped this tweet:

"@TSMXpecial - Each team literally shuffled their best players around and none of the teams are noticeably stronger..."

As you can see below a lot of the patch notes that we detected from the beta in the previous weeks went live. As always Riot included some bug fixes, quality of life changes, and undetected changes, that I have highlighted in bold for easier reading. Enjoy!

      • Implemented a directed camera mode that will automatically follow the action in game!
      • The camera will seamlessly jump between champion fights and other critical moments
      • Interesting events like Champion kills will be prioritized
      • When multiple Champions are on the screen, the camera will automatically adjust to include them
    • Timeshift Controls

Curse and LoLPro are excited to announce the Reign of Gaming International League of Legends Invitational.

We at Curse wanted to bring something special to the community, and after the great response we had to our last invitational, we really wanted to host another event. This time we decided to include our friends on the EU servers, and to make the competition truly international by letting them compete on their own servers until the offline finals. That way lag is never a deciding factor in a match, only skill. We hope to see some great competition, and are excited to see what the EU players will bring to the event. We would like to wish the best of luck to all teams competing in the event, and we look forward to meeting the best of you in San Francisco.
