- Doran's Blade
This is my favourtite starting item. Shyvana has approximately 2.2 AD ratio from her Q and W, so Doran's Blade will give enormous damage. She also scales very well with HP items, so you will like the bonus health too.
I used to grab Red Elixir + 3 pots, but since Riot nerfed it, Doran's Blade has been superior. 3 min duration is too short for making play, and unlike laner, enemy jungler can totally hide from you, which make Red Elixir's reward more inefficient.
- Hunter's Machete
- Health Potion
A safer option that works on every junglers. Machete helps you at farming, and 5 pots gives enough sustain to get level 6 straight.
- Long Sword
- Health Potion
SaintVicious usually starts with Long Sword so he can complete Vampiric Scepter after 1st Recall. Buy this if you want to play as a carry (not recommended in solo queue though).
- Spirit of the Ancient Golem
Spirit of Ancient Golem now is really a must-buy to every tanky junglers now, and Shyvana is not an exception. It gives you everything you want: great HP, CDR, and Tenacity (so you can freely wreck havoc without being kited).
- Locket of the Iron Solari
Riot has removed Bulwark and put Aegis into Locket. So now you only have to buy one aura defensive item. Without it, you cannot win any major teamfight.
- Ninja Tabi
- Boots of Mobility
If your team already took down some turrets, you may buy Mobility Boots. It gives incredible amount of MS, so you can sneak into enemy territory then counter jungle. If they can't farm up, they wouldn't comeback either.
- Ravenous Hydra (Melee Only)
Saintvicious and many others like BotRK, but after seeing C9 Meteos, I believe Hydra is the best option if you need DPS.
In teamfight, Shyvana is similar to Rumble. You deal AoE damage to as many targets as possible. If enemies kite you, you will be dragged for sure, and BotRK won't help. You'll just run into their support's peel or get flashed. With Hydra, you can literally sit with your ulti defense benefits in the middle of the 3 other champions (most likely top/jungle and support) and tank all their AoE damage. Finally, BotRK is a cooldown item. If its active doesn't help you kill a squishy, you are left with its base stats. Hence why BotRK suits mainly assassins and ADCs, who normally do not need to position themselves to take damage and tend to have 1-2 threats. Hydra's more frequent active will be more useful as the battle draws on.
- Bilgewater Cutlass
If you really need a reliable slow (aside from Exhaust), then Cutlass is really enough. It takes 1800 gold for upgrading to BotRK, and you don't need AS. Also the slow only useful at early-mid stage, it won't be that good in 5vs5 teamfight.
- Randuin's Omen
Randuin is a good choice at late game because you can either peel for your ADC or go smashing theirs. While pairing with Burnout, enemies will suffer load of damage.
Now Hexdrinker is a really great choice if you face double AP teamcomp. Lifeline works better with your innate MR. You can upgrade it into Maw of Malmortius if you want, personally I only do it if the enemy team has Karthus or Ryze.
- Zeke's Herald
A very underused item, but it is good if your team has another AD caster. Your ADC will love its lifesteal bonus - especially if she is Vayne.
- Spirit of the Elder Lizard
Now your E is an AoE ability with long range, so it can apply SotEL to many units. In my opinion it only works if you are snowballing and the enemy team doesn't have high HP or shield-abilities. I will get it if I do well against Amumu (his E only reduce incoming dmg from attacker) or Sejuani (she gets tankier though armor and MR).
